Well friends, this isn’t really a bounce back blog post but since the title of this email is Dockfam “Adventures” ….and I am in the midst of a trio I thought I’d pop in for a quickie. I apologize in advance for any typos and lack of photos since I’m posting from my iPad.
Anyhoo, after the holidays I had a blessing come upon me and I snagged a great new job. Part of my on boarding process was for me to visit one of the offices that just happens to be in Omaha, NE. I have never, ever been to the American Midwest. All I knew is that it is cold and our lovely Mother Nature had just blown through there the week prior dumping inches of snow upon it’s inhabitants. I’m not a fan of cold….or snow! But alas, on Monday I landed in Omaha.
It’s nice here….cold as hell but nice. While flying in I noticed the lack of traffic on the roadways and how desolate it seemed compared to the Dallas area. There are no big chain restaurants or shopping choices nearby and I’ve only seen one Starbucks since I arrived. The people here are friendly and warm…they give you that small town feeling of being welcome. One thing is for sure, they love living here and wouldn’t go anywhere else!
I’ve only been to very touristy destinations in my past so even though my time working here is brief (I fly home tomorrow) it has been enjoyable. It is a nice change to the hustle and bustle of living in a busy city suburb and being able to get to bed before 10 for the last few nights has been amazing!
I’ve got so much more to share with you all but I will attempt to catch up soon. My husband called tonite with a bird crisis because my cockatoo decided to play Houdini and escape his cage….and refusing to go back in. I’ll have that one to figure out when I get back….how to escape proof his cage and then it will be time to review the high school enrollment papers that my son received this week. It looks as if enrolling for high school is just as complicated these days as college registration…I’m not sure if I’m ready for all of this. I might just stay in Nebraska!
Congratulations on the job!!!
It’s going to be cold a lot longer in Nebraska. Maybe just stay long enough to really enjoy the Dallas temperatures when you get back. (Or until hubby sorts everything!)

Congratulations on the new job. That is absolutely wonderful and I wish you all the success you could hope for. Isn’t it wonderful when work takes you to places that you might never otherwise travel to?

Thank you! When I worked for a different company, they had a center in Omaha as well. I always gave my friends a hard time when they would get sent there in the dead of winter. Karma’s a b! Yes, I’m hoping it might bring me other places as well in the future!

Well I do have an embarrassing story to tell about my first night in NE…I’ll see if I can’t post that in a bit. My husband put treats in the bird cage, then left the room and shut the door. Kiwi gave into temptation and went in ๐

Thank you! OMG…..well…no I’m a vegetarian but funny you say that. I sat in on a training class and 2 of the people in there had a part time job with Omaha steaks! It’s a BIG deal there apparently! I did eat at an excellent Mediterranean (did I spell that right?) place tho.

Funny thing. The time I was in Omaha, I went out to a nice restaurant exactly for the purposes of getting a good Omaha steak…. and ended up getting the Banana Shark (I love shark even more than steak). (Still not very vegan, though!) The shark was good, but I look back and wonder what I was thinking. Shark in Nebraska??
