Playing Catch Up

I have to apologize that my blog postings have been spotty over the last few weeks. I don’t know exactly what it is, but I’ve just felt a bit overwhelmed and under the weather…which has left me in a brain fog and uninspired. I really need to play catch up today and reply to a few award nominations I’ve received recently.
The first I received over a week ago from Jackie at Change is Good Right? and I promised to reply to the “rules” at a later date. So, for the “Wonderful Team Member Readership Award” here we go….14 is a big number but I have some favorites I think are deserving:

Lady Goo Goo Gaga
Monica’s Tangled Web

themisadventuresofmisaki
Go Jules Go
Sincerely, Slapdash
Our Life in Action
Adventures of a Dog Mom
Lulu’s Musings
Life of Bun
Logos con carne
thehealthywarrior
Motherhood Is An Art
Long Life Cats and Dogs
Doggy’s Style

If you’d like to accept and participate in the award cycle, here’s the logo that you can proudly slap up and display on your blog:

A few days later I received the “A Lovely Blog” award from my two legged and four legged friends over at Our Furever Family.  I have been nominated for this before, however that doesn’t take away from my gratitude of being mentioned again.  As a sign of thanks — please, I urge you to pay them a visit over at their blog page.  I promise, you won’t regret it!

I will keep with the spirit of this award and list 7 more things about myself:

~I played a nun in my 9th grade production of “The Sound of Music”
~I won 1st place in my 5th grade science fair
~I’ve been to 5 Billy Joel concerts
~I once told Paula Abdul that she looked “tired”….yes, to her face
~I prefer Vodka over Tequila
~I’m severely allergic to cats
~My first car was a blue,1989 Chevy Beretta

I know that some of you don’t participate in the awards process and that is ok.  I really think it is a wonderful thing.  It’s great validation that other bloggers read and appreciate what you have to say.  I love the support system and whether I’ve received the award already or not, I will always be thankful for the thought behind it!

Awards of Plenty

Once again I am blushing and thankful that a fellow blogger has recognized me and nominated me for two more awards.  Thank you Jackie @ A Change For a Better Me blog. I think you are much more deserving of the “Inspiring Blog” and “One Lovely Blog” awards than I.  However, I will gracefully and with a smile accept them and pay it forward.

I’m having a real hard time thinking of seven more things about myself but here goes:

1. I started playing piano at the age of 5
2. I played Kim McAfee in my high school production of “Bye Bye Birdie”
3. My hair is 75% gray at the ripe old age of 35….I dye it and blame my kids
4. I believe in ghosts and have seen an angel
5. I hate loud music, especially in the car
6. I’ve ridden an elephant but never been on a horse
7. I hate crowds and prefer solidarity to being around a lot of people

OK– Now to pass it on…sorry but I’m running out of time and am only going to list 5 instead of 15…don’t hate:

Emily Cooks Vegan

Misty’s Laws

Life of Bun

Miss Four Eyes

Me Myself and I

Thank you again for the recognition, I’m truly not worthy of the time you all take out of your day to read my ramblings but I sure do appreciate it!

Beautiful Blogger Award: Call the Paramedics!

Oh my goodness…three awards in 3 days….I don’t know if I can take all this excitement.  I am getting older you know!!

The Beautiful Blogger came to me by way of Carla Sue @Eat Sweet. and I can’t be more thankful.   If you haven’t done so already I strongly urge you to get on her blog and check out those incredible little bits of heaven that she makes.  A personal favorite….because I’m a Harry Potter nerd …she has successfully conjured up Butterbeer.

Since I’m accepting the award, I need to come up with 7 more things about me.  This is going to be difficult.  I’m not that interesting people!!

  1. I took a freshman to senior prom.  Yup, cradle robber.
  2. All ASPCA commercials make me cry.  I’m crying right now, there’s one on TV at this very moment.
  3. I took Spanish class from Kindergarten – graduating high school and all I can say is “Hi what’s your name?”
  4. I never went to public school in my life.
  5. I’ve never gotten a speeding ticket (or any other traffic-related violation)
  6. I’ve never broken a bone.
  7. I quit smoking after 16 years about 3.5 months ago cold turkey.

Below are the blogs that I would like to pass the Beautiful Blogger Award on to.
Congratulations to all of you, it is well deserved.

2. Choose seven blogs to nominate and let them know by leaving a comment.
3. Request that the chosen blogs pass on the award to their favourite blogs.
4. Copy and paste the award on your blog post.
5. List seven things about yourself.

Oops, I Must Follow the Rules!

So I’m reading along…yada yada and I see that these awards have “rules”.  I notice that I didn’t do what I was supposed to do!  Chalk it up to a newbie mistake.  here ya go:

Versatile Blogger Award:

  •  Thank the person who gave you this award. That’s common courtesy: Check.  Of course, did that in my previous post.  I’m MORE than grateful!
  •  Include a link to their blog. That’s also common courtesy — if you can figure out how to do it: Check.  Got the name linked up in previous post.
  •  Next, select 15 blogs/bloggers that you’ve recently discovered or follow regularly. ( I would add, pick blogs or bloggers that are excellent!): Here are my daily favorites

Fear No Weebles – She keeps me quite entertained and laughing with her humorous posts.
Daydreaming Disney – I didn’t think anyone would love Disney more than me!
A Clown On Fire – Pure hilarity
Donkey Whisperer Farm Blog – Because before I found this blog, I didn’t know there was anything such as a Donkey Whisperer.  Oh, and I love Donkeys.
Super Flat Cycling Photos – My dad is a cyclist and I try to be sometimes….I love these photos, they are amazing.
Momentum of Joy – One word, Inspirational.
The Kit-Kat Sisters – Their posts are simple, but meaningful
Stefan’s Gourmet Blog – Because he cooks like me and I love every single, solitary recipe that he posts.  I want to BE Stefan.
Making Time for Mom – I’m an ex-extreme couponer but still love a great deal
Vegetarian Ventures – Loving anything that has to do with vegetarian recipes so this blog is a go-to for me.
Putney Farm – Their photos and recipes make me drool.
One Veg World – I want to eat everything they post.  I’m definitely planning to pay the restaurant a visit next time I’m in the area!
Carr Party of Five – Because I think her life is probably as hectic as mine.
linda vernon humor – Side splitting humor and charming wit!
Thoughts Appear – Probably one of my absolute favorites I try to visit every day.  She almost makes me want to be a cat person…..almost.

  • Nominate those 15 bloggers for the Versatile Blogger Award:  OK, they are hereby nominated for the Versatile Blogger Award  (wave of wand and sparkle of light)

  •  Finally, tell the person who nominated you 7 things about yourself.

Out of all of this, I’m sure this will be the most difficult….here goes….

  1. My “dream” was to be a Broadway star someday…or a music teacher…one of the two.
  2. I have a serious man-crush on Gerard Butler and David Beckham – it’s a sick fixation.
  3. I can’t scrub carpet.  Ok that doesn’t sound right…I mean I can’t stand the sound of any material rubbing against carpet.  Makes me want to throw up.  If the dog peed, I have to blot it up with my shoe.
  4. I’m deathly afraid of heights.
  5. I used to “collect” (capture) little worms as a kid and make houses for them out of index card boxes..furnished and everything!
  6. I cannot walk in heels.  Seriously, anything higher than a few inches and I’m face planting it on the ground.
  7. I’m addicted to Dexter (the TV show) and really wish there was one in real life…

There are a few other bloggers out there that I wish to award with the Beautiful Lipstick Award because like Lorna said, they are the ones you want to plant a big hug and kiss on.  These bloggers comment on my crazy posts all the time and I thank them for their support!

Irene @ Me Myself and I
Chancy the Gardner
Mary @ The ME-gan Lifestyle
Easy Blog
Diane @ HomeToGo232

There are several others but just know I didn’t forget you — I will catch you the next go-around.  I appreciate ALL of you!

Rave: I’m Blushing!

I have to say that when I started this blog a few months ago it really was just a way to document and share my family’s travel experiences along with a few of my homemade recipes.  There was a point where a light bulb went off and it dawned on me that I could share just about anything in regards to my mundane, everyday life and it would be entertaining.  Why?  Because it seems like for the Dockerys, there is never a dull moment.

I did enjoy English class and I used to classify myself as a pretty good writer.  It does seem however, that if you don’t use it, you lose it because compared to the majority of the blogs that I read on a daily basis, my writing is similar to that of a first grader.  I’m sure that I will never make the NY Times best seller list or win a nobel prize but if I can just make one person laugh or smile while they are reading my blog, then it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished something.  My blog is also a journal of sorts and I love the fact that I can go back and relive my family’s memories over and over again.

So, the point that I am getting to is that I was uber-excited when I received two blog awards (the Versatile Blogger Award and the Beautiful Lipstick Award) from Lorna of Lorna’s Voice .  I really have never given much thought to my blog as being award-worthy!  Thank you Lorna, I am truly flattered and because of this, I’m inspired to do some research into how I can be a better blogger.  Your blog is one of the first that I started reading when I became a member of the blogging and WordPress communities.

I also thank all of my readers and followers that you choose to come back to my blog time and time again to see what crazy s*** I have to say!

From the bottom of my heart!
